Modern Dance
My appreciation of the spiritual medium of dance has evolved while I was still in the Academy. Time and time again I am amazed at the human bodys perfect ability of expression. To me, the most fascinating connection is the ability to explore both arts. During my confluence with choreographer Sally Anne, who considers this exploration to be an essential part of any composition. On times, I just wanted to put the Mandolin aside and join the movements Yaki
Playback Theatre
Besides playing the Mandolin, for the past ten years Yaki has been a member of the Playback Theatre improvisation group. The group appears regularly in the renowned Tsavta club in Tel-Aviv and various other venues around Israel. The playback is a fundamental tool in developing the Improvising Personality and in each of the workshop sessions led by Yaki, he uses instruments from the playback world. In the past three years, Yaki Reuven and Dani Navat (the groups director) have established the Playback school in Beer Sheva. The additional information is in Hebrew and is aimed at the schools workshop participants.

Jerusalem Music Centre
In the past decade the status of classical music in Israel has dropped significantly, specifically in classical music tuition and in c oncerts audience. Since 2003, Yaki Reuven is running a national project that encourages young people to start playing string instruments. This project is aimed at introducing the violin and cello to second and third grade children in ten peripheral schools, where they might otherwise complete their school years without ever encountering such instruments. Young aspiring teachers were recruited and specially trained for the job of teaching in small groups; small size instruments were purchased, and local music schools were asked to take charge of individual teaching for those kids who would do well in the groups and wish to continue. This program, which in 2006 entered successfully its fourth year, is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
Master class
In order to preserve and distribute the classical approach to music in general and playing the Mandolin in particular, Yaki Reuven meticulously dedicates some of his time for tuition in Masters classes. These courses of study include:1. Students from outside of Israel are invited to a two-week course that includes ten tuition sessions.2. Israeli students are accepted for tuition towards Academy entry exams and competitions.3. During concert tours an emphasis is given to meetings with musician communities, including students from the Yehudi Menuhin school in London. Extracts from one of these meetings can be seen in this short video.
Clown and Musician
The encounter between LYSON the clown and Yaki Reuven, the mandolin player, occurred about ten years ago, while both were taking their first cautious steps studying in the Beer Shebas PLAYBACK theatre with director DANI NAVAT. Now, a decade later, LYSON and Yaki are performing regularly with the Playback theatre and are recognized as key players in the development of this theatres unique style. Many times over the years, in this encounter between improvisation theatre and the classical concerts stage, they had thoughts of connecting between the two worlds, and then, when LYSON left to study clowning in the Arik De Bonnet International School of Clowning in Spain, more and more ideas and illustrations came on how to realize this connection between a concert player and a clown. What happens when a clown finds itself on stage with a Mandolin player who plays a Prelude by Bach? What sparkles will be emitted when the unique, desperate for love and attention brushes against the precise, tie-wearing classic? Will the clown beat his rivals over the musicians attention, Bach, the score, and the Mandolin? Will the musician be able to maintain his concentration? The show brings original and colorful scenes, sometimes grinning, sometimes tearful. On stage:•A musician practicing scales and a clown climbing a step ladder.•Vivaldis change of seasons changes the weather for the clown who merely wants to become a tree.•In between all of the musicians rituals, the clown wishes for a single glance of affection. The Clown and the Musician project was awarded first prize in the Negev Theatres Local Spirit contest (in memory of Talia Gaffner).
